Carbon Steel Manufacturing Process
The Smelting of Carbon Steel Carbon steel smelting is typically performed in converters and open hearth furnaces. Converters are commonly used for ordinary carbon steel, while open hearth furnaces produce various grades of high-quality steel. The rapidly advancing oxygen top blow converter technology is poised to replace traditional open hearth methods. Refined liquid steel is cast into ingot molds to create various ingots. These ingots are then forged or rolled into plates, strips, bars, and sections of various shapes. Carbon steel is often used in its hot rolled form. For manufacturing tools and various machine parts, heat treatment is tailored to specific requirements. Steel castings typically undergo heat treatment as well.
