Carbon Steel Manufacturing Process
The smelting of carbon steel is a sophisticated process typically carried out in converters and open hearth furnaces. Converters are often used for smelting ordinary carbon steel, whereas open furnaces are employed for producing various high-quality steels. Rapid advancements in oxygen top-blow converter technology are making it a viable alternative to traditional open hearth furnaces. Refined liquid steel is cast into ingot molds to form different ingot shapes. These ingots are then forged or rolled into plates, strips, bars, and sections of various profiles. Carbon steel is commonly utilized in its hot-rolled state. For manufacturing tools and diverse machine parts, heat treatment is required as per the usage specifications. Steel castings, on the other hand, undergo heat treatment to enhance their properties.
