Scrap Copper Overview Scrap copper is a discarded item that can be salvaged for a second life, typically sourced from old buildings and transportation systems. Copper, along with copper-based materials, presents an exceptional opportunity for recycling throughout all stages of the product life cycle, whether it is in exposed states or embedded within final products.
Upon reprocessing, approximately one-third of all scrap copper makes its way back to the market as refined copper. The remaining two-thirds are repurposed as unrefined copper or copper alloys. For direct reuse, scrap copper must undergo stringent classification, stacking, and sorting processes. This allows for a simplified process with minimal equipment, leading to high recovery rates, low energy consumption, reduced costs, and minimal pollution.
